Let's dive into the wild world of Country Fare Cafe, where the entrance is so mysterious, it's like finding Narnia through a wardrobe. So, picture this: You sneak in through a side door like a secret agent, turn left down a dimly lit hallway, and suddenly, BAM! You're in the dining room. It's like the restaurant version of Platform 9¾. The staff here are buzzing around, serving everyone. No designated waiter, just a tag team of friendly faces. They're like, "You want a menu? Boom! Here it is. Sit anywhere, darling!" Now, let's talk about the real stars of the show--the food! I ordered the legendary 3-item combo: beef Tamale, taco, and enchilada. Brace yourself, because this is where the magic happens: 1. Beef Tamale: Imagine a corn husk wrapped gift from the culinary gods. Tender beef, perfectly spiced, and that sauce? Oh, honey, it's like angels tap-dancing on your tongue. 2. Taco: Crispy shell, juicy meat, and a sprinkle of sass. It's like the taco whispered, "Hey, girl, you deserve this." 3. Enchilada: Rolled up like a cozy Mexican blanket, smothered in sauce. It's like a warm hug from your abuela. Hold onto your sombrero, because this is the plot twist: All this deliciousness for under $11! It's like they're saying, "Here's a feast, and also, here's some change for your next adventure. In summary, Country Fare Cafe is like that quirky friend who wears mismatched socks and tells the best stories. It's not fancy, but it's got heart. So, grab your sarcasm hat, waltz in through the secret door, and let your taste buds salsa dance.
We stopped in a few weeks ago me and my son for breakfast and I had the chili Colorado with eggs and it was very good and my son offered more for lunch dish and he was very impressed. It's worth the drive from Kingsburg to this place, good prices and good food.
Feels like we are regulars here all the time. Kids love their food and micheladas always hit the spot. Must try their chili rellenos and enchiladas
This place is good for red beers and their food is really good too. I would definitely come back.
If it wasn't for a friend I would just drive by this place ... fortunately I went : Ambiance- well .... Service - good Food - excellent Other than the location being kinda sketchy , this is a great place for breakfast, the chorizo and eggs was absolutely fantastic.
Amazingly good authentic Mexican food restaurant. Great service! The prices are super affordable and the food is so good. I had the small combo #19 plate which includes hard shell shredded beef taco, shredded beef enchilada, with red sauce for less than $10! I would have given a five star review but the place is really run down it needs a paint job at least, the walls were really dirty too. The bathrooms were also very dirty and there wasn't any toilet seat covers and the hand dryer did not work.
This popular eatery in Southeast Fresno has been prominently featured on ABC30's Dine and Dish. The current owners kept the old restaurant name, which was an American-style diner, in the early 90's and has been serving delicious Mexican or Mexican-American food to its legions of loyal patrons since. My go-to dish at a dine-in Mexican restaurant is usually the enchilada and taco combination plate. Although I feel there are few things better than authentic street-style tacos, I love when restaurants offer this combination platter with the gringo style hard-shelled corn tacos which are served with seasoned ground beef or shredded beef or chicken - along with chopped tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and shredded cheddar cheese. The old Mexican restaurants where I grew up dining at with family in Sacramento always served them this way so it has much to do with the nostalgia factor as it is a personal preference. I like to order this combination with beef tacos and chicken enchiladas. The enchilada was prepared with a Tex-Mex style brown sauce. It was filled with juicy, well-seasoned chicken and salsa. The tortilla did not fall apart too quickly in the sauce or get too soggy and it was covered with melted cheese. The ground beef of the hard-shelled taco was also well-seasoned and the meat was juicy. The hard-shelled corn tortilla was flaky, crunchy, and good-sized, which helped to keep all that meat, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese inside and intact as you bit into the taco without it falling apart. The plate was served with delicious rice and refried beans, along with both green and red salsas and complimentary chips and pico de gallo. The combination plate was solid: tasty, comforting, no-frills. The flavors were not something that "blew your socks off" but I would order both the taco and enchiladas again. The menudo, on the other hand, was a real pleasant surprise. This Mexican stew prepared with beef tripe is usually only served on the weekends. The red chili pepper and tomatoey base had a deep flavor and also had just the right amount of hominy and diced onions, and a garlicky essence. Good menudo always starts with the tripe. I noticed it was thoroughly cleaned and well prepared here from the taste and color. Cut into bite-sized chunks, the tripe was very tender and infused with the flavors of the broth and the hominy. It was not foul-smelling, slimy, or overly chewy which is often associated with bad or poorly cooked tripe. Chopped cilantro and lemon slices were provided to garnish and squeeze into the soup and served with piping hot flour or corn tortillas. It was delicious, maybe the best bowl of menudo I have had so far in Fresno. Family-owned and operated. You can tell the dishes are home recipes and served with a lot of pride. Excellent customer service and the prices are all very reasonably priced. Expect a long line during peak lunch hours. The restaurant also closes at 7 p.m., about an hour earlier than most other restaurants nearby. They open at 6 a.m., however, which makes them an ideal spot for both American-style breakfast or Mexican desayuno.
